Kevin Ortega was also arrested in connection to the shooting for giving false information to police regarding a capital felony. OSCEOLA COUNTY JAIL MUGSHOT
A man police say shot another man in the back of the head outside a Kissimmee smoke shop in August is in the Osceola County Jail after he fled, then was extradited from, Puerto Rico.
Jordany Ramos-Oliveras, 24, of Kissimmee has been brought back to Osceola from the island in connection with the death of Onix Camacho Ramirez, 24, outside of the Beyond Smoke Shop on West U.S. Highway 192 just east of Vineland Road. He was formally arrested and charged Friday with second degree murder with a firearm, and is held without bond. He is set for arraignment on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
According to the case’s arrest affidavit, Sheriff’s deputies were called to the smoke shop around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24 in reference to a shooting, and found the victim with a gunshot wound to the head. Through surveillance video and an interview with a security guard onsite, who said Oliveras “sucker shot” Ramirez in the back of the head then fled along with others on scene, Oliveras became the suspect.
Sheriff Marcos Lopez, at a press conference Tuesday, said Oliveras fled to Puerto Rico within 24 hours of the shooting. The Sheriff’s Office has a reciprocation contract with Puerto Rican law enforcement, and according to the U.S. Marshall’s Service, Oliveras was arrested in Vega Baja.
“This agreement comes in pretty handy sometimes,” Lopez said. “Because of it, the murderer is back in Osceola County. Homicide detectives did a great job on this, they made it personal.”
Lopez said it took six weeks to bring Oliveras back from Puerto Rico because he fought the extradition.
Few details are available about why the incident occurred, Lopez said, but did offer it came from a disagreement. According to the security officer, another man, Kevin Ortega, 22, punched Ramirez just before he was shot, then fled the scene. While Ortega said he was not involved and was at an adjoining food truck when the shooting happened, he was charged with battery and making a false report about a capital felony to law enforcement. He also sits in the Osceola County Jail ahead of a scheduled trial on Dec. 16.
