April 2022 has been proclaimed National Fair Housing Month by the City Commission for the City of Kissimmee. The Osceola County Association of Realtors® was recognized in the proclamation for its continued commitment to the mission, and intent of Congress to provide “fair and equal housing opportunities for all.”
“Thank you to City of Kissimmee and its Commissioners for recognizing April 2022 as National Fair Housing Month. Realtors® are committed to being honest and impartial when it comes to fair housing and upholding the letter of the law. That is no more evident than it is during Fair Housing Month, as we celebrate the opportunity for everyone to have the dream of homeownership,” said Alexandra Arena-Gil, President of the Board of Directors for the Osceola County Association of REALTORS®.
The Fair Housing Act was enacted 54 years ago, on April 11, 1968, and its purpose was to eliminate racial segregation and end housing discrimination in the United States. The law prohibits discrimination in housing based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity and expression, familial status, national origin and disability, and commits recipients of federal funding to affirmatively further fair housing in their communities.
Accordingly, every April, Realtors® commemorate the passage of the Fair Housing Act with events and education resources for their members that shine a light on housing discrimination and segregation.
