The Osceola School District would like to talk to you — and hopefully put you behind the wheel of a bus.
With the 2021-22 school year just a week away, the District is still in need of 35 additional bus drivers to fill all of its routes when school resumes on Aug. 12. With that need, the district will hold a Bus Driver Job Fair on Tuesday, Aug. 10 from 8 a.m. to noon at its Transportation Department at 401 Simpson Road in Kissimmee (just south of Professional and Technical High School).
No experience is necessary to become a school bus driver, and individuals will receive paid training towards their CDL license.
Some of the benefits of becoming a school bus driver the district touts include a competitive wage, being a part of the state of Florida’s Florida Retirement plan after completion of a probationary period, an Osceola employee Wellness Program, use of the Center for Employee Health and no-cost medical insurance.
Schedules are flexible, and drivers work the same schedule as students, meaning no night, weekend or major holiday work.
A high school diploma or GED is preferred but not required, and the District will provide assist with studying for and taking the CDL written permit test.
Those interested can attend the Job Fair in person, and Transportation department clerks will assist them in filling out the online application. Individual must bring their driver’s license, social security card, and three years of driving records.
