This week: swim lessons, Coffee with a Cop, downtown grants

We’re in Florida, so we have a couple things in long supply: summer heat and pools. Now, what we need is some safety.

The 13th Annual World’s Largest Swimming Lesson comes to the Chris Lyle Aquatic Center today (Thursday, June 23) from 9 a.m. to noon. Be a part of Team WLSL, a global drowning prevention group, making a difference by spreading the message that “Swimming Lessons Save Lives.” For kids 1-4 years old, drowning is the second leading cause of death, and for children ages 5- 14, it is the third.

To register, got to webtrac.stcloud.org.

Start your Tuesday morning (June 28) at 8:30 a.m. by having Coffee with a Cop — and not just any cop — come meet the new St. Cloud Police Chief Douglas Goerke.

This event will be held at Frankie’s Place (1018 New York Ave.). This is an opportunity to talk with and get to know police officers in our community, with no set agenda. Due to construction downtown, Frankie’s Place suggests attendees park behind the restaurant and use the rear entrance.

Then, later in the evening, residential property owners in the St. Cloud Downtown CRA District should make plans to attend the Paint, Plan & Pave Program from 6-7 p.m. This webinar provides an in depth look at the St. Cloud CRA Residential Enhancement Grant, also known as the Plant, Paint, Pave Grant, which provides up to $2,000 in financial assistance for home restoration. Staff will explain qualifications and the application process for this program.

For more information, call 407-957-7235 or email CRA@stcloud.org.

The Friends of the St. Cloud Library will be hosting their Summer Book Sale July 7 (1-8 p.m.) and July 8 (9 a.m.-3 p.m.) at the St. Cloud Veterans Memorial Library 810 13th St.). This is a great opportunity to support your reading habit and the “Friends” at the same time. Cash and credit cards are accepted.
