Just in time as the weather’s gotten “chili”, the Downtown Monthly Market Chili Cook-off takes place on Wednesday, Jan. 28. Be prepared to enjoy bold flavors, friendly competition and bragging rights. You can enjoy a variety of home-made chili while voting your favorite and enjoy the Downtown Market which will be held that same evening from 5-9 p.m.
High School students are invited to explore the Japanese language and culture through a six-week immerse program presented by The Vargas Inter-Cultural Institute. This course includes weekly workshops and cultural demonstrations, with all materials included. Enrollment is limited to 15 students. AMVETS Riders FL Chapter 33 presents Relay for Life Poker Run on Sunday, Feb. 1. This 17th Annual Music and Bike Fest, which benefits Relay for Life begins at 9:30 a.m. at Island Cloud Grill (1122 Pennsylvania Ave.) with stops at Drunken Parrot, AMVETS Post 33, Not a Clue/Cozy Cove and VFW 3227. Fee is $20 per rider/$10 passenger.
The Osceola County School District’s Grants Management is bringing its RISE Up Osceola Bus to branches of the Osceola Library System. This renovated yellow school bus is transformed into a mini-pre-k classroom. The RISE Up Bus is filled with resources and hands-on activities that help parents and families of preschoolers build literacy skills. The Bus will be at the Veterans Memorial Library on Thursdays.
Friends of the Veterans Memorial Library also invites you Treasures of Reading Used Book Sale on Thursday, Jan. 29 from 1 to 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 31 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. All types of children, teens and adult books will be offered at $5 per bag (bring your own or buy a Friends bag for $2). Teacher and Home-School resources are also included, as well as DVD’s.
Save the date! St. Cloud Main Street and Granny’s Southern Smokehouse present Roots & Rhythm Festival on Saturday, Feb. 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event will be held at 9th and Pennsylvania Ave, in celebration of Black History Month. There will be live entertainment, food trucks, vendors and a car show. Food trucks and vendor spots are $50 each and fill up quickly.
