The Association of Poinciana Villages (APV) will host a free Senior Self-Defense Class today (Aug. 18) at the Poinciana Community Center (445 Marigold Ave.) The class will be provided courtesy of Polk County Sheriff ’s Department. The Polk County Sheriff ’s Department will also offer a Women’s Basic Self Defense Class on Aug. 30 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Anthony DePalma Building (395 Marigold Ave.) Registration is required, email Giselle Padilla.
Also today over at the Poinciana Library (101 Doverplum Ave.), a resume writing workshop will be held from 10-11 a.m. Learn important features needed in a professional resume, and how to use Microsoft templates to make your own resume in Word.
Then, in the evening, take your financial future in a new direction! From 6-7 p.m. attend the Homebuyer Education Program. Home buying can be very stressful experience. Learn the ABC’s of the home buying process and learn about becoming a homeowner. Homebuyer Education is presented by Centennial Bank.
The following week, Thurs., Aug. 25 from 6-7 p.m. Centennial Bank presents Understanding Credit Report and Score. Learn how financial institutions evaluate your credit, the strategies to maintain a good credit record and the best practices to repair your credit scores.
All library programs are free and open to the public.
Fall registration is now open for the Poinciana Youth Sports Association’s Junior Magic Basketball League. This coed league for ages 6 -17 of age is divided into 4 age categories. The Fall season runs from Sept. 17 to Nov. 5 (gym for games TBD). The registration fee is $140 and includes practices and games all in the Poinciana area, a new customized Junior magic jersey and a free ticket to an Orlando Magic game.

Precision Elite Volleyball (PEV), a result-driven junior volleyball program, is in its third year in Poinciana. Tryouts for the upcoming season begins on Sat., runs Sept. 3-10.
