Kids on summer vacation? Here’s something you can doo-doo-doo-doo with them

The North American Tour of Baby Shark LIVE! is coming to the Silver Spurs Arena at Osceola Heritage Park on June 28.

Concertgoers of all ages can expect to hear Baby Shark and his friend, the young fox Pinkfong, as they sing and dance along to their signature hit, as well as a handful of other new and classic songs, including “Five Little Monkeys,” “Wheels on the Bus,” “Jungle Boogie” and “Monkey Banana Dance.”

The show is fun for the entire family and an immersive experience for children as they learn about shapes, colors and numbers. The wildly successful video and song prompted the tour, which promises “dancing in the aisles” and an uplifting concert for all.

“Baby Shark,” the catchy children’s rhyme, is the most-watched video ever on YouTube. The song has now been played over 7 billion times, overtaking the previous record holder, “Despacito,” the Latin pop smash by singer Luis Fonsi. To provide some context, “Baby Shark” could stream continuously for more than 30,000 years.

It took several years for the tune to ascend to the top of YouTube’s most-played chart, but the song is actually thought to have originated as a summer camp sing-along in the 1970s. One theory suggests it was invented in 1975, as Steven Spielberg’s “Jaws” became a box office smash around the world.

There are a huge number of variations on the basic premise. But none of them have matched the phenomenal success of Pinkfong’s interpretation, which was sung by 10-year-old Korean-American singer Hope Segoine and uploaded to YouTube in 2015.

Its addictive “doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo” hook and fishy dance moves became a craze in South Korea, where popular bands like Red Velvet, Girls’ Generation and Blackpink started incorporating it into their concerts. Soon after, Pinkfong put out a second video, titled “Baby Shark Dance,” featuring two cute kids performing the dance routine.

That clip inspired the hashtag #BabySharkChallenge, with everyone from Indonesian farmworkers to pop stars Cardi B and Josh Groban joining the fun.
