Orlando City rebounds from loss, roars past Nashville, 3-0

On a beautiful Florida evening at Inter&Co Stadium, Orlando City SC rebounded from last week's 3-0 defeat to Sporting Kansas City with a convincing win over Nashville SC by the same score.

The packed house witnessed a display of skill and determination from the home team. The match started brightly for Orlando. In the 10th minute, Iván Angulo found the back of the net with a well-placed shot, assisted by Martín Ojeda.  Just four minutes later, Facundo Torres doubled Orlando's advantage. A cross from Dagur Thórhallsson found Torres in space, and the Uruguayan's left-footed acrobatic strike nestled in the bottom left corner, leaving Nashville's goalkeeper with no chance. As Orlando celebrated, frustration was evident among the Nashville players, who argued amongst themselves.

The game was marked by physical play from both sides, with each team committing 14 fouls. The referee was kept busy, issuing six yellow cards to Orlando and one to Nashville. Despite the frequent stoppages, the match maintained a steady intensity, with Nashville occasionally looking like a strong contender.

Nashville SC, under new head coach B.J. Callaghan, who previously led the U.S. National team, is in the process of finding its identity. Currently near the bottom of the standings, they fought hard but couldn't break through Orlando's defense.

As the match neared its end, Orlando City sealed the victory in the 85th minute when Torres scored his second goal of the night, assisted by Duncan McGuire, who the club recently signed to a new multi-year contract. With his assist and Torres' second goal, these young lions showcased why they're a force to be reckoned with. Orlando City's young attacking core, with an average age of just 24, keeps opposing defenses on their toes with their speed and skill. Let's look at the key players in this young core:

César Araújo (DM, 23)
Ramiro Enrique (CF, 23)
Facundo Torres (RW, 24)
Martín Ojeda (LW, 25)
Duncan McGuire (CF, 23)
Dagur Dan Thórhallsson (RB, 24)
Iván Angulo (LW, 25)
David Brekalo (CB, 25)

Orlando City now has a bye and does not play until their next game against 13th place New England on Saturday, Sept. 14 at home.
