LETTER TO THE EDITOR — A story of fighting against cancer

Dear Editor:

My journey with cancer has been filled with uncertainty and challenges, but one thing I am determined to do is participate Saturday in the annual Orlando Breast Cancer Walk at Lake Eola. For the past two years, I have made it a priority to walk alongside survivors, fellow cancer warriors, and anyone whose life has been touched by this disease.

I am a testimony to resilience because I keep defying the odds. My first prognosis was one year, then six months, then just three months to live (I was originally diagnosed in June 2021; I’m still here fighting). Each year, the physical demands of the walk grow, especially as my treatment has shifted and intensified after a recent biopsy revealed a rare form of cancer. Still, I am committed to showing up—not just for myself, but for everyone who needs to see that they are not alone in this fight.

This year will mark my third time joining the walk. As long as I am able, I will continue to participate, because I want survivors, patients, and families to know that we are in this together. My journey, which I share in my book “NED: I Keep Moving,” is not just about my own battle, but about hope, resilience, and the strength we find in each other—especially during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Cancer has brought me new purpose. It’s all about inspiration, motivation, and information. It’s all about the power of a positive mindset. If my story can encourage even one person to keep going, or remind someone that they are supported, then every step is worth it.
