LETTER TO THE EDITOR — ‘All Inclusive’ class plan should be reversed

Dear Editor:

It seems Osceola County has unilaterally decided to make it’s school classes “all inclusive,” in that all students will go to “regular” classes, regardless of their ability to do things like ascertain and learn the same material as their classmates, use restrooms as their classmates, be cognizant enough to know danger (in running away from the classroom) versus safety (remaining in the classroom) and have a modicum of self-control to refrain from assaulting other students (as well as the teacher).

These four points are causing chaos and pandemonium in classrooms. Teachers are attacked physically and drained emotionally. They are wisely quitting in unprecedented numbers. Students who could and would be excellent learners lack the teaching they deserve, because teachers are taking care of the “no fault of anyone’s” infantile students who cannot take care of themselves, and should be in classes with autism-trained personnel. This would leave the teachers to be able to do their jobs of teaching students who are capable of physical, emotional, mental self-control— and capable of learning.

This trial has failed, is failing, and will cause the failure of not only the capable students, but the incapable of learning students, as well. Whomever thought such a system could work should take immediate action to reverse this horrendous situation before irreversible damage is done to both students and teachers alike.
