The problem, and the need created, is evident on the side of Osceola County roads.
It shows in students waiting at bus stops for over an hour, as drivers have to double or sometimes triple-up routes to the same school.
And it's evident along the fence by the Osceola County School Districts' Transportation hub and bus depot, where there's a huge sign: "DESPERATELY SEEKING BUS DRIVERS".
The district is has been short dozens of drivers since the school year began in August. Absences due to COVID-19 have made it worse. The School Board has looked into partnering with the LYNX bus system and private partners, but they haven't alleviated the problem.
The District's Transportation Department hopes to fill some of the vacancies Tuesday at a job fair on Tuesday from 8 a.m.-noon at the Transportation Services Compound (401 Simpson Road, just south of Professional and Technical High School). Those interested can attend the event, call 407-518-4540 or apply online.
