Governments knowingly violate laws

Dear Editor:

Regarding your Dec. 2, 2021, front-page article entitled “Osceola County violated Sunshine Law amid 2020 COVID Response,” it’s become apparent to me that at all levels of government, especially those under Democratic Party control, knowingly violate local, state, and federal statutes, daring those who suffered damages as a result o f these violations to sue them.

Government lawyers are too sharp not to know that violations will occur and possible lawsuits filed if certain acts, mandates, and resolutions are passed and implemented. I would even suffice to say that governing bodies are forewarned by their lawyers yet proceed otherwise. These governing bodies know that most citizens will never become aware that laws have been violated and also know those who do become aware haven’t the means to file suit. These bodies also know they have virtually unlimited funds to defend themselves and will stop at nothing at counter suing, delaying cases, and appealing them to force plaintiffs to give up.

I urge all citizens to take a lesson from Mr. Joshua Meyers, who successfully sued the Osceola County Board of Commissioners, and look into acts, mandates, and resolutions that are passed by any and all governing bodies and if you feel you suffered damages, consult an attorney. If you don’t have the means to sue, use whatever forum available to let those who govern you know and let the public know what you uncover. As an American Citizen, you have the God-given right to petition your government for the redress of grievances and the right to freely express yourself in voice and in print.

Where is DeSantis?

Dear Editor:

Where is Gov. DeSantis when you need him to actually talk for once?

Almost 80,000 new cases of COVID infection and we have heard nothing from DeSantis. After months of him taking credit for the “amazing” job he has done compared to other states, we’ve now seen more than a 118 percent spike since the lowest amount of cases in the last three weeks … and he is absent.

Right now we have Floridians waiting eight hours in a line to get just a simple COVID test. I for one waited in a six-hour line in order to get a test done for myself due to being sick, but meanwhile there are a lot of tests that, according to Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried, are about to expire. But the State Health Department is not opening more testing sites.

Why must our elderly and most vulnerable suffer for eight hours in order to get a simple test done? Meanwhile, Florida has received over $11 billion in funding for COVID, and where has that money gone? There are a lot of questions that our Governor has to answer, and while this is the moment that we need him the most, it is the moment in which we need him in front of a podium, not just taking credit, but actually doing something about our testing sites and keeping our most vulnerable safe.
