Planning on throwing a big party to ring in 2022 next week?
If you haven’t been on its platform for long, don’t expect renting through an app like Airbnb to be part of the plan.
Much like the privatespace rental app did in 2020, Airbnb has a plan to help prevent unauthorized parties over the New Years’ Eve weekend in order to emphasize safe and responsible travel.
At the heart of the plan is a block on certain single-night reservations during New Year’s Eve of entire home listings in Kissimmee and Orlando for guests without a history of positive reviews on the platform. Airbnb has done much the same in 2020-21 over Fourth of July and Halloween.
Last year, Airbnb deterred 750 entire home bookings at New Year’s Eve.
While residential rentals offer travel without the risk of common spaces like lobbies, large events can result in incidents that require law enforcement to break up out-of-hand house parties and prevent gun violence, like at an October event investigated by an Osceola County Sheriff ’s Office saturation unit, where seven occupied residences and 10 vehicles had been shot at.
The “global party ban” has emerged as a foundational component of our approach to trust and safety, Airbnb said, certain holidays like New Years’ Eve, attract higher risks of unauthorized or disruptive parties.
Guests without a history of positive reviews on Airbnb will be prohibited from making one-night reservations in entire home listings. There are also stringent restrictions on two-night reservations that may pose heightened risk for disruptive parties. Guests who have a history of positive reviews on Airbnb will not be subject to these restrictions. Approximately 243,000 guests globally encountered these defenses during booking attempts ahead of NYE 2020, Airbnb said.
