St. Cloud marks Wreaths Across America Day

Saturday, Dec. 18 was Wreaths Across America Day. Over 100 people and numerous veterans, youth, and civic organizations laid donated wreaths on veterans’ graves at St. Cloud’s Mount Peace Cemetery. They joined over two million volunteers at 3,136 participating locations across the U.S., several other countries, and at sea, in placing 2.4 million wreaths Saturday.

A group from the St. Cloud Rotary, the Harmony High School wrestling team and others were on hand at 7 a.m. to unload and preposition bundles of wreaths at numerous locations across the City’s 110-year-old cemetery. At noon, a patriotic ceremony began to remember the fallen veterans, including over 300 Union veterans from the Civil War, interred at the cemetery.

Students from the Osceola School of the Arts performed an a capella rendition of the Armed Force Medley. The ceremony finished with the Osceola County Veterans Council honor guard firing a 21-gun salute and three buglers playing echoing Taps.
