The 28th Annual Poinciana Christmas Parade is Saturday at 11 a.m. Street closures in the Poinciana community are as follows: Country Club Court, Chip Court, Trophy Lane, South Flag Drive, South Flag Court, Country Club Road between Doverplum Avenue and Caddy Lane and Doverplum Avenue between Cypress Parkway and Country Club Drive. These streets will be barricaded during the parade starting at 10:30 a.m. and will reopen after the parade at approximately 12 noon.
The parade route starts at the corner of Cypress Branch and Cypress Parkway, traveling east on Cypress turning right on Doverplum, heading south and then right on Country Club Road. The parade ends behind the Mary Jane Arrington Gymnasium and Aquatic Center. All spectator parking will be off-site at the Activity Campus parking lot, 445 Marigold Ave. There will be two shuttles transporting spectators to the venue beginning at 9 a.m. Shuttles will continue until 3 p.m. every 15 to 20 minutes. Handicapped parking will be located at Vance Harmon Amphitheatre Park (50 Country Club Dr. – handicapped tag required). One shuttle will also be handicapped accessible.
A Christmas Celebration follows immediately afterwards at Vance Harmon Park until 2 p.m. Live entertainment will be provided by the Disney Springs performing artists La Calle Band and saxophone entertainer Don Black. Poinciana’s favorite M.C. Carol Saragusa will keep the event moving and flowing. The Association of Poinciana Villages (APV) Holiday Food Truck Row will have over six food trucks. There will be plenty of activities for the children including inflatables, balloon artists, face painters, a stilt walker, holiday jugglers and, of course, Santa himself.
Cash prizes will be awarded for best float and for the Battle of the Bands competition. Best Decorated Float wins $500 for first place, $300 for second place and $200 for third place. Battle of the Bands competition also awards cash prizes, first place is $400, second place is $200.
Liberty High School’s Liberty Theater will present Little Shop of Horrors on Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the school’s auditorium. General admission is $12, $5 for students in grades 10 to 12 with a school ID. Tickets will be available at the door or online at https://bit.ly/3EoFyAV. On Saturday Dec.
On Saturday Dec. 18, Osceola County Commissioner for District 3, Brandon Arrington, will host a drive-through Christmas food distribution from 10 a.m. to noon at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 3880 Pleasant Hill Rd. Christmas dinner boxes will be distributed to the first 600 families.
