Southport Connector info meeting Tuesday

The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) will hold a public information meeting on Tuesday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Liberty High School (4250 Pleasant Hill Rd.) CFX is conducting a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study for the long-awaited Southport Connector Expressway, a proposed 15-mile tolled expressway that would connect Poinciana Parkway to the Florida Turnpike and Canoe Creek Road south of St. Cloud.

The Southport Connecter Expressway is a proposed four-lane expressway south of Lake Tohopekaliga that forms the southern leg of a proposed beltway system around the county, that began with Poinciana Parkway on the west. In August 2020, CFX began this PD&E Study. That will determine the feasibility of this proposed limited access tollway.

The 23-month study is developing and evaluating several transportation alignments to identify a preferred alternative, using the results of a previous Concept, Feasibility and Mobility (CF&M) Study. The goal of the study includes: enhance mobility for the area, provide Poinciana limited-access to the Turnpike, provide connections between existing and future expressways within the study areas and promote regional connectivity.

This public information meeting is both in person at Liberty’s gym or virtually. To pre-register for the virtual on-line go to: http://bit.ly/SouthportMtgOct2021.

Either meeting option will allow participants to view a presentation and ask questions about this study as well as submit comments. The online meeting will include a presentation of the study, and audience members will be able to ask questions and submit comments throughout the meeting.
