Osceola County Commission meeting makes history Monday with all-female leadership

At its last meeting Monday night, the Board of Osceola County Commissioners gave a whole new meaning to the term "Ladies Night."

All five seats on the dais were filled by women. Commissioners Viviana Janer, Peggy Choudhry and Cheryl Grieb were not joined by their male counterparts Brandon Arrington and Ricky Booth, who were away. Janer ran the meeting as Vice Chair in relief of Arrington. County Manager Don Fisher and County Attorney Frank Townsend were also away, and were represented by Deputy County Manager Beth Knight and Assistant County Attorney Kimberly Kopp.

A few more women were instrumental in carrying out Osceola County's business at the meeting Monday night: Public Information Program Producer Deborah Carson, Assistant County Manager Donna Renberg, Deputy Johanna Rivera, Assistant Community Development Susan Caswell,Administrator, Administrative Support Coordinator Iris Soto, Board Support Specialist Debra Davis, and Commission Application Developer Karla Wong.

“I hope that any women and girls watching tonight find some inspiration by our example,” Janer said. “I think all of us up here would agree that hard work and perseverance are rewarded in society today. You should never doubt your own value or power as you pursue opportunities and your dreams.”
