Gov. Ron DeSantis is sending 50 members of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Florida Highway Patrol to Arizona and Texas Monday.
He said the governors of those states asked for assistance and said they needed about 500 personnel.
DeSantis said law enforcement chiefs in northern Florida said methamphetamine from Mexico was a growing problem.
Once “cooked” in the U.S., more of the highly addictive stimulant is now being produced overseas and brought in.
Sheriff’s offices in Brevard, Escambia, Hillsborough, Holmes, Lee, Okaloosa, Pasco, Santa Rosa and Walton counties have volunteered to send officers, DeSantis said the state was initially “able to meet the need with the state resources.”
