State’s K12 education standards topic at Toho High forum

State education officials were at Tohopekaliga High School Thursday afternoon on a “listening tour” for public input on the Florida Standards, the state’s K12 educational benchmarks.

The Florida Department of Education builds the measures around specific content, knowledge and skills that students are expected to learn in public school.
Each student's performance on the yearly Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test for reading, writing, mathematics, and science indicates their progress in reaching competency in those subjects.

Most of the state’s public school curriculum, as well as the FCAT series of exams, are based on the Florida Standards.

The Florida DOE began reviewing several specific content areas to include: civics and government, the Holocost, personal character development, English, alternate academic achievement standards for students with cognitive challenges and substance abuse.
Revisions in these content areas were crafted based on feedback DOE received over the last several months from Florida education experts and can be viewed at www.floridastandardsreview.org
