The Kissimmee Gateway Airport is getting $466,204 from the Federal Aviation Administration to fund a “Master Plan Study.”
The grant is partly funded by the American Rescue Act Plan enacted by Congress this year as part of a trillion-dollar COVID-19 relief bill. It will be used to update the city’s 2004 study and will focus on the short-, medium-, and long-term development plans to meet future development at the municipal airport.
“We anticipate the study will include important areas such as land-use development, forecasting, future aircraft mix, sustainability, and energy use. Also, this will provide ISM the opportunity to research and implement future best practices to support the regional aviation industry,” said Shaun Germolus, Aviation director at Kissimmee Gateway Airport.
The city must officially accept and approve the FAA grant with the study expected to begin in the late summer or early fall. The process will also include public meetings and input.
