ALL-COUNTY GIRLS TRACK — The Pryce was right at state meet

    She wasn’t Osceola County’s highest finisher at the FHSAA Class 4A state track and field meet, but she was the only athlete to reach the podium in two different events. For that reason, Osceola jump specialist Cheyenne Pryce is the Osceola News-Gazette Girls Track Athlete of the Year.

    Pryce placed fifth in the long jump and seventh in the triple jump in May. It capped a season where she had to overcome injuries and self-doubt.

    “With nagging injuries, it was extremely frustrating early in the season, but with the help of Coach Smith and our trainers, I was able to save the season,” Pryce said. “I qualified for states in my sophomore and junior years but felt I bombed out in those meets, so to reach the podium in two different events was a really special.”

    “She is certainly a hard worker and fierce competitor.” Coach Eric Pinellas said. “She would get frustrated at times but always would pull herself through those issues. Cheyenne is worthy of Player of the Year honors.”

    Several other county athletes reached the podium at the state meet and were deserving of recognition. Several performers earned All-County honors based on their regular and post-season performances.
