A Kissimmee man is dead and another is in serious condition at a local hospital following a head-on collision on Orange Avenue north of Kissimmee just into Orange County, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.
Troopers say the crash occurred on the Orange Avenue overpass over Wetherbee Road just after 6:30 a.m. According to the crash investigation, a Chevrolet Impala headed southbound on Orange driven by a 26-year-old Arcadia man crossed the median, for unknown reasons, into the path of a northbound Toyota 4-Runner driven by a 61-year-old Kissimmee man. The two vehicles collided and both became partially engulfed in flames, FHP reports.
The two drivers and a passenger in the Toyota, a 33-year-old Kissimmee man, were transported to HCA Florida Osceola Hospital, where the Toyota driver was pronounced dead. The passenger and the Impala driver were in serious condition at last report.
A roadblock on the Orange Avenue overpass at Wetherbee Road was/has been in place much of the morning as the crash remains under investigation, FHP reports.
