Kissimmee Police name new Public Information Officer

For the first time in a long time, the public and media-facing post at the Kissimmee Police Department will be a sworn officer.

Sergeant Raquel Fernandez, who has over 25 of experience with KPD serving as a patrol officer, School Resource Officer, and 10 years in the Criminal Investigations Division, was announced to the position late Thursday.

Fernandez will serve in the Office of the Chief and oversee the department’s communications with the public, the city said, including media relations, updates on key events and initiatives, and community engagement efforts. Fernandez follows a string of city communications employees who have filled that role over the last 15 years or so.

Fernandez said she serves as both a cop and a longtime Kissimmee resident (37 years) and is deeply passionate about the Kissimmee community and residents she's served.

“Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with our community, from our schools to our most sensitive investigations and I understand how important trust and transparency are," she said. "I am committed to ensuring our residents feel informed, heard, and connected to the work we do every day to keep Kissimmee safe.”

Fernandez's PIO experience includes service as a patrol officer, School Resource Officer, 10 years in the Criminal Investigations Division investigating and supervising complex cases, 10 years as a supervisor and work with other units in sensitive undercover operations.

“Sergeant Fernandez has demonstrated outstanding leadership and dedication throughout her career,” said Chief Charles Broadway. “Her experience and commitment to service make her an excellent choice for Public Information Officer, and I am confident she will strengthen communication and public trust within our community.”
