On Saturday, the Healthy Start Coalition of Osceola County kicked off its new Parents on the Move initiative at Kissimmee Lakefront Park. The event drew wonderful weather and a strong turnout, marking a successful start to what organizers say they hope will become a growing movement across Osceola County.
Each participant received a commemorative T-shirt and a “Healthy Starts with You” kit filled with wellness essentials, including a reusable water bottle, nutrition plate, fitness bands, healthy recipe cards, and a Healthy Starts with You wristband. Attendees also had the chance to win raffle prizes, including a Fitbit, with healthrelated giveaways planned for future meetups.
To encourage continued participation, walkers received tracking cards to log their attendance. Participants who complete 10 walks will earn special recognition and rewards, reinforcing the program’s focus on consistency and long-term healthy habits.
Funded by Simply Healthcare, Parents on the Move is designed to inspire healthier lifestyles throughout the community. The initiative emphasizes the importance of improving health before pregnancy, as better preconception health increases the likelihood of healthy pregnancies and babies. Through monthly walking meetups, participants build not only physical strength but also a supportive network that motivates and encourages one another on their wellness journeys.
In addition to the monthly walks, the program will offer health, wellness, fitness, and nutrition workshops throughout the year, further equipping families with tools to lead healthier lives.
Community members interested in joining the March walking meetup can follow the Healthy Start Coalition of Osceola County on Facebook or join the group on the Meetup app for location details and event updates.
