Council’s Corner — Spotlighting ‘Generations’ monthly news and updates

With more than two dozen programs, service lines and community outreach projects within the Osceola Council on Aging, our team manages many interchanging and evolving initiatives. It often seems like a jigsaw puzzle of ‘moving parts,’ synergistically working in tandem, with the primary mission of supporting seniors in need across the community.

With more than 230,000 services provided in 2025, our social service organization, employees and volunteers cover a lot of ground (and I mean that literally). From driving hundreds of miles across Osceola County transporting clients, to serving Meals on Wheels and collecting and distributing millions of pounds of food within our two-food pantries, these three programs alone are a major undertaking.

On top of that we also care for seniors in our adult day care and health clinic, provide emergency assistance and in-home repairs to clients in need, serve residents within our multiple, affordable housing complexes and provide transportation, all while managing our amazing volunteers who help keep our clients safe and fed while performing home visits.

Nearly five years ago, our team felt it was time to start our own Council driven media platform, and thus “Generations Monthly News & Updates” was created. Our focus was (and still is) to provide a platform to keep our employees, volunteers, philanthropic supporters and donors, business partners, and most of all, community residents better informed of our organization’s ever expanding ‘moving parts.’

Over the years, our newsletter has become a popular, online educational platform; an avenue of interconnection for local businesses and stakeholders, reaching more than 8,000 subscribers each month, and nearly 400,000 since its inception five years ago.

The newsletter has become so popular we gauge nearly an 80% open click rate, which is unusually high. We are thrilled the community consistently engages in our monthly news, updates, and announcements.

Other content includes Council activities, calendar events, our positive impact within the community, while also spotlighting outstanding employees and volunteers. Our content editors also focus on health education and safety strategies, resource guides, diet and medical tips, articles covering OCOA assistance programs, as well as identifying and acknowledging needed contributions and critical donations. Just as important, we share needed funding priorities and policy updates to reinforce the Council’s transparency with the community.

Our newsletter also provides sponsorship opportunities for businesses and organizations wanting to promote dedicated events or generally advertise their products and services to hundreds of thousands of Osceola residents.
