So that jacket you pulled out of the closet when you headed out the door Monday morning ... keep it handy for later in the week.
And maybe find another layer or two for Thursday night through Saturday.
While a cold front moved through overnight Sunday to provide a little brisk shot of cooler area, another much stronger one is set to come in Thursday night and drop overnight temperatures into the 30s, high temperatures will struggle to get to 60 on Friday and Saturday and the wind chill Friday night could drop into the 20s.
"The combined northwest breeze, clear sky conditions, and cold continental airmass will send temperatures plummeting into the 30s for most by Friday morning," an NWS are forecast discussion said Monday morning. "Wind chill values in the mid to upper 20s are forecast Friday morning as well, solidly reaching Cold Weather Advisory criteria for 80% or more of east Central Florida."
A "Significant Excessive Cold Risk" has already been issued. "Frostbite and hypothermia (are) possible with prolonged exposure."
It's the coldest air of the current winter season. Saturday promises another cold start with temperatures in the 30s and 40s, but a lighter wind makes for less of a wind chill factor. The NWS says effectively that Jack Frost has brought January winter to our area.
"Expect a cooler-than-normal pattern to persist through the extended range with limited opportunities for measurable rainfall," the NWS forecast said, noting another front is expected on Sunday night — but we'll update that later and work on one weather story at a time.
