Get ready to welcome 2026! It's the ultimate reset in life, when we not only tear off a page of the calendar ... we get a whole new calendar!
New Year's Day is a federal holiday, meaning government and utility offices will be closed Thursday and will re-open Friday. Aside from that, most retail businesses, especially the chains, will be open Thursday for shopping, eating, and starting the new year right.
Regarding trash collection, If your pickup is normally on Thursday (Jan. 1) or Friday (Jan. 2), your collection will happen one day later. Thursday customers should put their waste out on Friday, Jan. 2, and Friday customers should put their waste out on Saturday, Jan 3.
New Year's Day is also the traditional day for the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade and Philadelphia's Mummers Parade (Google it, check it out, you'll be glad you did).
