Davenport man charged in fatal Poinciana crash Thursday night

Tragedy struck in the final hour of Thanksgiving when a Davenport man was charged with DUI manslaughter after the Florida Highway Patrol said he caused a crash that killed an 18-year-old woman on Poinciana Parkway late Thursday.

According to an FHP spokesperson, Eddy Edmond, 44 was arrested and booked into the Osceola County Jail overnight.

Troopers say an Acura MDX driven by Edmond was headed westbound on Poinciana Parkway just after 11:40 p.m., and failed to stop for a Hyundai Tucson driven by a 34-year-old Kissimmee woman, and crashed into it. The impact caused the Tucson to overturn, the FHP report said, and collide with a Ford F-150 truck just ahead of it.

The Tucson driver and five female passengers were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries. The 18-year-old woman from Stockbridge, Ga., was pronounced dead at HCA Florida Osceola Hospital. The Acura driver sustained minor injuries and the F-150 driver was not injured, troopers said.

Edmond, the arrested man, was charged in Osceola County in 2012 for knowingly driving with a suspended license; he lived in Orlando at the time.

Thursday's crash remains under investigation.
