In response to devasting Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica, HCA Florida Poinciana Hospital is collecting healthy, non-perishable food items to send to those affected by the storm.
Donations needed are canned vegetables and canned meat, rice, beans, healthy snacks and baby food. They can be dropped off in the main lobby through Monday, Nov. 24.
Osceola County Sheriff Chris Blackmon, in partnership with Osceola County Corrections presents a Resource Outreach event on Friday, Nov. 21 from 12-4 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church (3880 Pleasant Hill Road). At this event, food, clothing, showers, haircuts, mental health support, health screenings and more will be provided. This effort recognizes the season-all about giving.
Prior to that, Inglesia La Nueva Jerusale (4925 Old Pleasant Hill Road), will host a mobile drive-thru food pantry in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank on Friday, Nov. 21 at 10 a.m.
Missionary Church in Poinciana, 4954 Old Pleasant Hill Road will hold a food giveaway on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon to the first 50 people.

The Association of Poinciana Villages (APV) Christmas Parade and Celebration is set for Saturday, Dec. 13 at 11 a.m. making its way down Cypress Parkway to Vance Harmon Park.
This family friendly event features a grand parade with dozens of floats and participants. Immediately following the parade is the holiday celebration at the amphitheater at Vance Harmon Park. This celebration features a kids’ zone, a food truck lane, live entertainment, vendors and crafters, a Battle of the Bands and more.
