The Kissimmee Police Department has launched a new system that will allow residents to report non-violent crimes, such as theft or vehicle break-in, online, by email, or by phone.
The Online Reporting System allows residents, businesses, and stakeholders to report certain non-emergency incidents online without requiring an officer to respond in person. The ideas is that reporting these incidents will be faster and easier for the community, while allowing officers to focus on emergencies and calls in-progress.
Through the system, found at kissimmee.gov/reportcrime, reports can be filed for incidents such as lost or stolen property, vandalism, criminal mischief, theft from a vehicle, identity theft, harassing communications, and anything not involving an emergency in progress or threats with a weapon. The incidents must occur within the Kissimmee city limits for KPD to have jurisdiction.
Each report submitted online will be reviewed by KPD personnel, and a copy is provided to the resident or visitor for their records. Police Chief Charles Broadway said the reports will help the agency understand crime patterns, and in turn have a hand in reducing overall crime.
"This new online reporting tool is another step forward in providing the best service possible to our community,” Broadway said. “We want people to know that even if an incident is reported online, it still matters to us. Every report helps understand trends and keep Kissimmee a safe place to live, work, and visit."
