In conjunction with the Second Harvest Food Bank, District 3 Commissioner Brandon Arrington hosted his second annual Holiday Food Distribution event at St. Rose of Lima Church in Kissimmee Saturday.
The drive-thru event—held in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida— provided 600 local families with free meal packages filled with holiday staples, and also this year welcomed walk-ins, expanding access to more families in need.
The turnout was overwhelming—officials said more than 450 cars were already lined up to receive food assistance by 10 a.m., before the event officially opened.
“This event is about community—about neighbors helping neighbors,” Arrington said. “For many families, this event offered more than just food; it was a chance to feel supported, celebrated, and connected during a season that can often bring added pressure and uncertainty. I’m so proud of how Osceola continues to show up for one another. Every smile, every meal shared today represents the true heart of this county.”
Each meal package included meat, produce, canned goods, and essential holiday staples, providing families with the ingredients to create an upcoming holiday meal.
The distribution was powered by the energy and dedication of many volunteers, including students from New Horizons High School and local organizations, working alongside Second Harvest Food Bank staff to load cars and greet families with smiles, combining all that to provide a morning of community action in the face of rising living costs and economic uncertainty.
“This isn’t just about a meal,” Arrington said. “It’s about showing every family that they are valued, that they are part of a community that cares, and that together we can make the holidays brighter for everyone.”
