Tropical storm watches and warnings are in effect for the Bahamas as a disturbance the National Hurricane Center expects to develop is expected to move north and parallel the Florida coast through the weekend into early next week.
The NHC began advisories on Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine, located near the southeast coast of Cuba, at 5 p.m. Friday. It's expected to become a depression by Saturday morning and Tropical Storm Imelda by Sunday.
From there, it is forecast to become a Category 1 hurricane as it nears the South Carolina coast. Current computer models keep the storm's core about 200-300 miles east of Florida's east coast, but as a true center has yet to form, this still bears watching for at least breezy conditions in Osceola County over the next 4-5 days.
And what may confuse things is the presence of strengthening Hurricane Humberto about another 400 miles to the east.
"There is an increasing threat of heavy rainfall early next week from coastal Georgia through the Carolinas and into the southern Mid-Atlantic states," the NHC said in its first storm discussion.
So if you're planning a trip to the beach this weekend ... be very, very careful around the water.
