KISSIMMEE NEWS — City hosting No School camp, Open House this week

The City of Kissimmee invites the public to a Parks and Recreation Open House at the Oak Street Park Community Center on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The whole family is welcome to this free event to enjoy activities, visit information booths, and share ideas and feedback directly. Connect with your neighbors, learn about upcoming programs, and help shape the future of the community. For details or to ask questions, call 407-518-2360.

. SNAP Jr. Fingerpainting is a new local event just for the young artists in our community. This fun, creative (and free!) activity is perfect for kids who love to get their hands messy and express themselves through art. Join Parks & Recreation at Mark Durbin Community Park (2253 Lakeside Drive) on Wednesday, Sept. 24 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Children ages 5-11 get to have fun, learn new skills, and make some colorful masterpieces. For information, call 407-870-7665.

. Just because there’s no school on Friday, Sept. 26, doesn’t mean fun can’t commence. The city offers two opportunities for kids and teens to stay active, have fun, and make friends.

. The Camp Discovery “No School” Field Trip, designed for kids in grades K-5 (must be at least 5 years old). They’ll head to Wild Florida for a day full of adventure and fun, supervised by Parks & Recreation staff. The trip runs from 7:15 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Also check out the Teen Extreme Camps, designed to keep the adventure going even when school is out. These camps are held at Chambers Park Community Center also on the 26th from 7:15 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The camp offers exciting activities and new experiences to help teens stay engaged and active. Please remember to pack a lunch and snacks for your child.

Call 407-518-2360 for the field trip or 407-518-2599 for the teen camp, as spots will fill up quickly.

. On Saturday, Oct. 11, make a splash with your furry friend at Barktoberfest at the Makinson Aquatic Center. This dog swim event offers a safe and fun place for dogs to enjoy the pool while owners connect with other pet lovers. Explore activities, visit specialty vendors, and let your pup enjoy a day of play.

Cost is $5 per dog, and proof of current rabies vaccination is required. All dogs will be given an aggression check before entering. Owners may accompany their dogs in the pool up to knee depth.
