Dear Editor:
It is with sadness to learn that Osceola County commissioners want to spend taxpayer money, using taxpayer land, to build a tribute to happened in Orange County and to honor nonveterans who did not die for this country but died because of their lifestyle. Only people who actually contribute to the betterment of the county should be honored using taxpayer money.
If it must be built it should be done by using private funding for everything including land, upkeep and memorial, built in an industrial park using private funds only, using that money to pay for land, upkeep and memorial—I bet that would never happen.
Quit spending taxpayer money like this, and use it only to help the people, and their families, who actually pay taxes. Charities are nonprofit for a reason; government should not be used as a charity.
Eliminate property taxes so people can own their home and/or business and not have to worry about losing their property when unable to pay them.
The budget should be reduced by at least 10% over the next 5 years and, yes, it could be done. Stop allowing building new development until infrastructure is in place and ready to handle the added everything that goes with it.
Stop pandering to your friends and do your job correctly for the taxpayer. You are elected to help taxpayers and not everyone else.
Please start doing your job correctly and quit spending money uselessly, because it is not yours, it is the taxpayers’.
I am a concerned and fed up Osceola County resident, and I will not move. Leadership should be ashamed of the behavior towards the taxpayers, who it sees the residents as cash cows with a “take more so we can spend more” attitude. It is time to stop hurting the taxpayer.
