St. Cloud Police Chief Doug Goerke has a new right-hand man; if you've been around Osceola County for a while, you may recognize him.
SCPD swore in new Deputy Chief Jacob Ruiz on Tuesday. He will serve as its Administrative Bureau Commander.
Ruiz spent about 20 of his 25-year law enforcement career with the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, rising to the rank of Major and serving as the public information officer under former Sheriff Russ Gibson.
"I want to express how honored my family and I are to be part of the St. Cloud community. It is truly a privilege to be appointed to this position of trust and to collaborate closely with Chief Goerke," Ruiz said. "Returning to the community that has significantly shaped my career and my dedication to public safety fills me with gratitude. Together, we will strengthen trust, ensure safety, and serve with unwavering integrity and compassion."
Ruiz’s responsibilities in the Administrative Bureau roles will include overseeing the Community Engagement Unit, the Support Services Division, and the Office of Professional Standards, SCPD said.
"Jacob Ruiz is a proven leader with a deep understanding of law enforcement. His extensive background and commitment to public service make him the ideal person for this vital role," said Police Chief Douglas Goerke. "I am confident that his leadership will be a tremendous asset to our department and to the St. Cloud community."
