Ozzy Osbourne dies at 76, BBC reports

Two weeks after playing a part in the final gig for Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne has died at the age of 76, the BBC is reporting that the family has said.

The BBC said the heavy metal pioneer, dubbed the "Prince of Darkness" was at his family's side in and "surrounded by love."

"It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning," the family said in a statement.

Osbourne went out the way he came in, performing his final concert with Black Sabbath for the first time in 20 years on July 5 in Birmingham, Osbourne's hometown. Rock icons Billy Corgan, Steven Tyler, Tom Morello, Ronnie Wood and others joined the on-stage celebration.

With Black Sabbath, he became synonymous with hits like "Crazy Train," "Flying High Again" and "No More Tears." In 1988, Osbourne scored another, teaming with Lita Ford on "Close My Eyes Forever."

Ozzy was known as much for the music as his antics; most infamously, he was reported to have bit the head off a bat while on stage.

Later, he endeared himself to another generation of fans, appearing with his family on the reality show "The Osbournes" from 2002-05. He teamed with son Jack in 2016 on "Ozzy & Jack's World Detour."

He leaves behind Sharon, and their children, Aimee, Kelly and Jack, as well his two older children, Jessica and Louis, from his first marriage to Thelma Riley,
