ST. CLOUD NEWS -- Come to Sami’s birthday party this weekend!

The City of St. Cloud is hosting a Birthday Bash to celebrate its favorite Sandhill Crane! Sami’s Birthday Bash is on Saturday, July 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the St. Cloud Civic Center. Sponsored by Advent Health, this fun filled day features activities, giveaways, birthday cake, special visit from Sami’s friends and more. For more information, call 407-957-7243.

The “Cram the Cruiser” Back to School Supplies Drive takes place on Saturday, July 19 at Walmart Supercenter, 4400 13th St. This event by St. Cloud Police Department will benefit the upcoming Hopkins Heroes Back2School Bash event on Saturday, Aug. 9.

These supplies are needed: crayons, markers, pencil cases, 3 inch binders, erasers, glue sticks, highlighters, dry erase markers, colored pencils, pencil sharpeners, children’s scissors, 2 pocket folders with prongs, 17-inch and 18-inch backpacks, composition notebooks, 3 ring fabric pencil pouches and wide and college-ruled loose leaf paper (100 lbs.).

Last year, St. Cloud Police Department completely filled the back of one of its patrol trucks.If you can’t make it to the event, but still want to contribute, a donation box is set up in the St. Cloud Police Department lobby.

Also for Back to School, the 7th annual A Hero For Kids Back2School initiative is in full swing. This year’s event is different from the past. Instead of registration and a drive-thru distribution event, a Hero for Kids will be directly supporting local schools and teachers. They will be delivering backpacks with school supplies and teacher supply kits to local schools. The backpacks will be distributed by the schools to children in need. Graceview Academy (2395 Hickory Tree Road) will host a Back-to-School event on Saturday, July 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event includes free backpacks, free haircuts, food trucks, entertainment and community resources. The event promises vendors, food and fun. Kids must be onsite to receive backpacks.

Americana Music Jam, music circa 1890 to 1980, welcomes musicians, singers and listeners to their jam. Held the third Saturday of each month, the music begins at 10 a.m. The third Saturday of this month is July 19! Americana Music Jam is held at the St. Cloud Community Center. There are still some spots available for St. Cloud High School Youth Football Camp. This camp is for children ages 6 to 13 and takes place Friday, July 18 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, July 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fee is $75 and takes place at St. Cloud High School, 2000 Bulldog Ln. Zumba is held every Wednesday, morning at 9 a.m. at the St. Cloud Civic Center/ The cost is $1 per person. This class is for all fitness levels. For more information, call 407-957-7243.
