KUA keeps the power on, and you see them at a number of community events. Now, the utility has been honored for its work.
Kissimmee Utility Authority announced this week it was, for the second time, the recipient of an American Public Power Association E.F. Scattergood System Achievement Award. KUA first received the Achievement Award in 2016.
The award honors APPA member utilities that have enhanced the prestige of public power utilities through sustained achievement and customer service, KUA and the association say.
Among the positives KUA earned recognition for were its longstanding Good Neighbor Fund Program, which has 8,000 customers who round up their bills to help fellow KUA customers experiencing financial difficulty with paying their utility bills, new Surge Protection and Home EV Charger programs, which drive sustainability.
KUA was also recognized for low outage times, or SAIDI, aging underground cable replacement program and investment in a number of community events.
“We are truly honored and humbled to receive this prestigious award,” said KUA President & General Manager Brian Horton. “This achievement is a reflection of our team’s unwavering commitment to excellence and our customers’ confidence in our service and reliability.”
Additionally, KUA welcomed a new board member, as the Kissimmee City Commission June 3 appointed Michele Lebron to a five-year term onto its Board of Directors.
Lebron is a 13-year Kissimmee resident and is the owner and managing attorney at Lebron Law. She will be sworn in at KUA’s October board meeting to fill the seat being vacated by Ethel Urbina, who has served on the board since 2013.
