Three people from Orlando, including a 5-year-old boy, are dead after a head-on collision Sunday afternoon on Kenansville Road, Florida Highway Patrol reports.
The crash had lanes in both directions closed on the road, U.S. 441, north of Yates Ranch Road, which is a few miles south of the Central Florida Animal Reserve, into the night.
According to the FHP report, a Ford-150 driven by a 40-year-old Jensen Beach man was traveling southbound in the northbound lane just before 3 p.m. north of Yates Ranch Road, which is about 10 miles north of the Canoe Creek Road intersection. Troopers say the wrong-way vehicle struck a northbound Toyota RAV-4, and the impact caused the Toyota to run off the road and overturn.
The 5-year-old was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased, the report said, and two other female passengers age 34 and 54 were pronounced deceased on scene.
The drivers, the Jensen Beach man and a 34-year-old Orlando man, were transported to Holmes Regional with minor injuries, and a nine-month-old boy in the RAV-4 was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital with minor injuries.
FHP provided no other details into the crash, which remains under investigation.
