Julio Ramos-Aleman, 39
Osceola County deputies had been called to a Poinciana home about two hours before a man allegedly stabbed his wife multiple times early Friday morning.
According to an arrest affidavit filed by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, the victim first called authorities at 11:15 p.m. Thursday to report that her husband, Julio Ramos-Aleman, 39, believed people were “out to get him” and he could hear them in the woods and beneath their mobile home. The victim said she had been in the process of obtaining an ex parte order for protection due to Ramos-Aleman’s deteriorating mental state.
Two hours later, deputies were called back to the residence on Pleasant Hill Road near Liberty High School after the victim called to report her husband had stabbed and was going to kill her. Ramos-Aleman fled the scene before deputies arrived and was arrested a few hours later. He is currently being held in custody without bond. The victim was transported to a hospital and is in stable condition.
It is not clear if deputies actually visited the residence or spoke to the suspect the first time the victim called for help. However, the arrest report states “this agency again responded” to the home, which indicates they did go to the home. Messages left with the Sheriff’s Office have not been returned as of the press deadline for this print edition, so it is not clear whether they made contact with the suspect prior to the attack. Under Florida law, authorities may take a person to a receiving facility involuntarily if there is reason to believe the individual is experiencing a mental health crisis and poses a substantial threat to themselves or others.
When deputies arrived to the stabbing call, they found significant amounts of blood throughout the home and in the bathroom, where the incident occurred, the report said. The victim said her husband accused her of infidelity before stabbing her about seven times. She suffered cuts to her throat, cheek and both eyes, along with defensive wounds on her hands. She said she had attempted to calm him down with a hug, but the next thing she remembered was being choked and stabbed in the bathroom.
The victim also informed deputies that Ramos-Aleman had been taking medication for psychological disorders, but she didn’t believe it was working.
