Gateway High School’s Student Senate Association (SSA) has been formally recognized beyond the school for its work throughout its campus and around the community.
Where other schools hold this program as an after-school, extra-curricular activity and opportunity, Gateway High School can now pride itself in providing this leadership course as a year-long elective. The program was first brought to the school in 2022, and advisor Nicole Mehit has been welcoming new faces and ideas into the classroom and program since starting it four years ago.
“I love giving kids an additional reason to come to school every day,” she said when asked why she decided to become involved in the program. “There are only four years of high school, so why not make the best of it and make all the memories you can.”
With this the fourth year, Mehit’s seniors have now been in the program since their freshman year.
The elective class welcomes students from all walks of life and gives them an opportunity to get together, connect, and leave their mark on the Panther campus.
Though it has only been at the school for four years, the program has shown brightly on and off campus. The student-led class continues to plan and execute events, give input on school improvements, and foster school spirit. This group of students continues to showcase Panther Nation and will continue to do so in the future for the betterment of Gateway High School.
