Incident blocked eastbound 192 for much of the morning
A 16-year-old male from Orlando was killed early Tuesday when he failed to negotiate a turn onto U.S. Highway 192, fell and was struck by one, or possibly two cars, Florida Highway Patrol reports.
According to FHP's crash report, around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday the teen was traveling southbound on Botanic Boulevard in the West Harmony subdivision on a Suzuki motorcycle, and for an unknown reason lost control while attempting to turn onto 192, and laid down the cycle as it crossed the paved median break.
Troopers say the cycle slid into the eastbound lanes and into the direct path of a Toyota Corolla driven by a 42-year-old Palm Bay woman. The undercarriage of the Corolla struck the cycle, the report says, sending the bike into the wood line while the rider lay in the eastbound 192 lanes. The teen was pronounced dead on the scene. The other driver remained on scene.
Troopers said another unknown vehicle main have possible struck the motorcyclist as he lay in the road, but FHP has no further information on a possible vehicle or driver. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call FHP and 407-407-737-2213 or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
The incident closed the eastbound 192 lanes into the morning commute time. Traffic heading to areas like Harmony High School had to use Hickory Tree Road as a detour.
