Dear Editor:
Here we are looking like fools as SCAR leadership drives a big ugly bus over all of us. After meeting with the planners at Central Florida Expressway Authority who showered her with praise and acclimations, its leader announced the new plan to be as proper as could be asked for. The Solivita HOA was asked to be in alignment with the 340-foot elevated expressway running down the middle of Cypress Parkway with a mixture of berms and bridges through Poinciana.
The blame was put on Poinciana’s overwhelming support of Brandon Arrington’s reelection to county commissioner by “wide margins.” Fewer than 20% of registered voters actually voted.
The chair of the CFX board is Brandon Arrington This plan isn’t approved, it isn’t funded, and the chance of it getting funded is slim to none.
The alternate route chosen by SCAR was one of many that could suffice if permits were granted. Because the first choice was usurped by the expansion of Poinciana Boulevard it needn’t have been the last resort, except it has been declared so.
This new plan, the one with lipstick on it, proposes to expand Cypress Parkway to three lanes in each direction alongside the six-lane elevated monster we long ago named the “Great Wall Of Poinciana.” This expansion is exactly what we were told couldn’t be done in the CFX presentation one year ago. Now we are told that if the width of the lanes of Cypress Parkway were reduced in size they could squeeze in three in each direction providing the speed limit was reduced.
Thanks to all the residents that packed our meetings, the business owners who signed our petition, and the residents who joined our efforts. It’s not over. We don’t quit.
