The First Early Birding Day of 2025 takes place on Saturday, Jan. 18 at Disney Wilderness Preserve, 2700 Scrub Jay Trail. Stop by the Preserve between 7-10 a.m. for special early access. Engage with staff about bird species and birding, techniques and enjoy a closer look through the Preserve’s spotting scope.
Get Hired! Essential Job Skills Series takes place on Thursday, Jan. 9 from 10-11 a.m. at the Poinciana Library. Build or polish your resume, create a standout cover letter and master interviewing skills.
This month’s makers Café: Lord of the Rings Drawstring Pouch takes place on Saturday, Jan. 11 from 2-4 p.m. Tread through the Shire and celebrate the works of J.R.R. Tolkien while making your own fantasy pouch. Supplies will be provided.
Rhythm Rhyme & Story time allows your preschooler to sing, swing and sway through this program dedicated to music and movement. It takes place Tuesday, Jan. 14 from 10:30-11 a.m. Then from 11:30-12, Baby and Me story time introduces books with playtime and repetitive music. Baby and Me is for those up to 18 months.
Pre-schoolers can head back to the Library on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 10:30 a.m. for Flex Your Fingers: Fine Motor Skills Workshop. Participate in pre-planned activities that encourage the development of fine motor skills, listening skills, early reading skills, socialization and creativity through stories, games and activities.
For the older ones ages 6-11, LEGO Club will meet on Wednesday, Jan. 15 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Build a LEGO masterpiece using your imagination, creativity and engineering skills.

Florida’s severe Weather Awareness Week takes place Feb. 3-7. In partnership with Osceola Emergency Management, youths ages 6-11 may enter the Severe Weather Awareness Challenge. Draw, paint or digitally create an original work of art about Florida’s sometimes-severe weather. Illustrate what to do to prepare in one of these severe weather categories: lightening, marine hazards and rip currents, thunderstorms and tornadoes, hurricanes and flooding, extreme temperatures and wild fires. All artwork should include a written safety message to help teach others about severe weather safety and preparedness.
Go to www.readyosceola. org for helpful information from Osceola County Emergency Management on what to include in your message. Original artwork must be submitted via the Osceola Library system’s submission page https:// osceolalibrary.librariesshare.com/severeweather by Saturday, Feb. 1. This contest is open to students from grades K-12.
The winning artist will be invited to the Osceola County Emergency Operation Center to celebrate and their art work will be shared across the County on social media and displayed at the winners local library.
