POINCIANA NEWS: Winners from the Christmas parade; 3 Kings are coming!

Congratulations to the winning parade floats and bands that participated in this year’s APV Christmas Parade and Celebration. The float winners are: 1st place– Dynamic Dance Studio; 2nd place–Backyard 4x4; 3rd place Mater Brighton Lakes. The Battle of the Bands winners are: 1st place–Poinciana High School and 2nd place– Discovery Intermediate School. Congratulations to all.

 

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office will host its Annual 3 King’s Day celebration on Sunday, Jan. 5 from 12-2 p.m. on the Poinciana Community lawn (445 Marigold Ave.). Enjoy the arrival of the 3 Kings, guest speakers, DJ, kid’s inflatable games, food trucks, Polk County Sheriff Meet and Greet and gifts for all the registered children up to age 12 while supplies last. Valencia College Poinciana Accelerated Skills Training (AST) Tour takes place on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 2:30 p.m. The Osceola Center for Accelerated Skills Training provides an opportunity to enhance skills and knowledge of the residential and commercial electrician program.

 

Do you love browsing through cookbooks, trying new recipes or techniques and sampling and sharing new dishes? Grab your spatula, get the to the Poinciana Library and get cooking with Kitchen Reader on Saturday, Dec. 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. You pick and make the recipe. Registration is required. Youths ages 8-17 have the entire month of January to compete in LitMag2025! Submit an original short story, poem and/or art work for a chance to be featured in LitMag, the Osceola Library Magazine. This year’s theme is Gone Missing. Explore the idea of something or someone vanishing. Whether it is a suspenseful mystery or a heartfelt story, let your creativity shine!

Submit your original piece of fiction, non-fiction, poetry or art via BiblioBoard at https://osceolalibrary.librariesshare.com/osceolalitmag. Submissions are accepted during the entire month of January and can be up to 2,500 words (file types accepted are: jpeg, jpg, gif, png, tiff, tif, epub2, epub3, pdf and jpg/jpeg). A commemorative magazine will be available at all Osceola Library Branch locations and a digital version published on BiBlioBoard.

One winning artist will have their artwork featured on the magazine’s cover. Published within the magazine will be the written and art selections chosen by special guest judges. All other eligible entries will be included on BiBlioBoard within Osceola Library’s Community Collections. Printed authors or artists will be invited to a reception for a live presentation of their creations.
