On Tuesday, Nov. 19, the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) will hold an informal community open house to discuss the Project Development and Environmental Study regarding the proposed elevated expressway along the median of Cypress Parkway (the Southport Connector).
It will be held from 3-7 p.m. A looping presentation will be at the Poinciana Community Center (445 Marigold Ave.), and exhibits and staff interactions will be available across the way at the Anthony DePalma Center (395 Marigold Ave.). Community members may come at any time during the open house to view exhibits, ask questions and provide comments. To attend, preregister at bit.ly/3ACsBqy.
CFX officials will share the latest findings and visuals for the Southport Connector PD&E. The portion being studied is along Cypress Parkway. The PD&E study is evaluation alternatives for the elevated expressway, design to alleviate traffic backups and improve commutes, and CFX wants community input in order to better evaluate the elevated concepts, which are expected to include bridges, rather than walls, on parts of the route.
While the expressway in this area includes the raised toll road in the median, the project would also include expanding Cypress Parkway to six lanes to local traffic, and include a multi-use trail for walking and biking. Eight intersections along the route would be widened and upgraded. The community input will help review noise, lighting and other impacts, and consider landscaping and aesthetic treatment.
It is part of a proposed 15-mile segment from Poinciana Parkway east to Florida’s Turnpike and Canoe Creek Road.
