The Florida Department of Transportation’s District 5 announced plans to repave a portion of U.S. Highway 192 east of St. Cloud early next year.
At a meeting last week regarding the project, details were unveiled for intersection improvements at Arthur J. Gallaher Boulevard, which serves Harmony High School, including upgrading the traffic signals and adding a crosswalk. The resurfacing of U.S. 192 from Nova Road to Arthur J. Gallagher Boulevard will extend the life of the existing roadway, according to FDOT. In addition, a six-foot sidewalk will be added to the west (Harmony) side of the highway along the section being repaved. Landscape enhancements are also planned for the Lake Lizzie Drive and Lake Lizzie Court intersections with U.S. 192 to prevent vehicles from using the right of way between those two streets.
The design for the project is funded at $2.2 million in FDOT’s fiscal year of 2025, which actually started in July 2024. Since there is no cost associated with acquiring Right of Way property for the project, construction is expected to begin in early 2025, at a cost of $14.6 million.
Public comments on the project are being accepted until Monday, Aug. 5. For more information on the projects and to ask questions and provide comments, see https://bit. ly/4dhRXI0.
