Orlando's Inter&Co Stadium, home of Orlando City SC, hosted two pivotal Copa America 2024 matches, further cementing Central Florida's status as a premier soccer destination.
Monday night, Panama defeated Bolivia 3-1 before 12,994 fans. Panama, needing a victory to propel into the quarterfinals and eliminate the USA from the tournament, were tied in the second half until Panama scored decisive goals in the 79th and 90th minutes. Panama, second in Group C behind undefeated Uruguay, will face either Colombia or Brazil on Saturday in the knockout round.
That came after Canada and Chile battled to a 0-0 draw in front of 24,481 spectators on Saturday. The match dynamics shifted significantly when Chilean defender Gabriel Suazo received a red card in the 27th minute, leaving his team with ten players for over an hour. Canada secured their quarterfinal spot based on that earned point. Canada's Copa America journey continues on Friday at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas, where it faces Venezuela in the quarterfinals.
These matches reinforced Orlando and Kissimmee's reputation for hosting top-tier soccer events. The region's state-of-the-art facilities played a crucial role in the teams' preparations — ESPN Wide World of Sports served as the primary training ground for Chile, Panama, and Bolivia, while Canada utilized the facilities at Osceola County Stadium for its training sessions.
The strategic use of these diverse venues demonstrates the area's capacity to accommodate multiple international teams simultaneously, further solidifying Central Florida's status as a premier destination for major soccer tournaments. This infrastructure not only supports the teams' performance but also enhances the overall quality of the tournament.
The soccer spotlight will return to Orlando on July 30, when Manchester City faces FC Barcelona at Camping World Stadium as part of the FC Series. This high-profile match further demonstrates Orlando's growing significance in the international soccer calendar.
