It's Cops vs. Kids in annual water gun and balloon battle — who won at Hopkins Park?

The weather Friday, at least before the rain came in, was perfect for a morning war gun and balloon fight.

And that's just what members of the St. Cloud Police Department engaged in with the children from the Hopkins Park summer camp program.

It's the third year of a going-strong community outreach program that gets officers and administrators — right up to Police Chief Doug Goerke — out of their patrol cars and offices

SCPD loaded up its Special Operations Unit, brought out new members of its Community Policing Division and showed a fun side with the camp kids Friday.

"We're coming back next year; we've got to take these kids down at some point," said a thoroughly-drenched Chief Goerke. "In all seriousness, we love getting out here, reaching these kids on a level like this and showing them that we love to have fun, too, and that it's great to have fun when you're doing the right things. After this, these new officers will be out on the streets helping keep our citizens safe."
