If your Memorial Day weekend plans include parties and enjoying adult beverages, don't press your luck by driving impaired. As AAA prepares to rescue thousands of drivers nationwide with car trouble during the long weekend, it will also work to keep impaired drivers off the road.
AAA is activating is holiday-period ‘Tow to Go’ program from Friday at 6 p.m. through Tuesday, May 27 at 6 a.m.
A call to Tow to Go — (855) 2-TOW-2-GO or (855) 286-9246 — AAA dispatches a tow truck to transport the would-be impaired driver and their vehicle to a safe location within a 10-mile radius. Since its inception, this life-saving program has removed more than 30,000 impaired drivers from the road. The service is free for anyone, yet AAA asks that it be treated as a last resort (Appointments cannot be scheduled in advance to use Tow to Go). It is designed as a safety net for those that did not plan ahead. Always choose a designated driver before celebrating.
“AAA’s ‘Tow to Go’ program is designed to remove impaired drivers from the road before disaster strikes,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “While this service is here for emergencies, we strongly urge everyone to plan ahead for a safe ride home. Because making responsible choices can stop a tragedy from happening.”
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Memorial Day weekend is the start of a 100-day stretch that sees the most fatal crashes, when teens are in cars alone or amongst themselves over the summer break.
